Conversion insight comes from looking at the steps after an enquiry arrives—not just the lead count.
Lead volume alone cannot show whether a sales process is working. A small set of consistently recorded stages helps teams identify where opportunities move forward or stall.
Choose a simple set of stages
For example, record lead received, first contact attempted, response received, appointment booked, appointment attended, quote issued and outcome. Use stage names that reflect your own process and apply them consistently.
Record the follow-up, not just the outcome
Capture when the first contact happened, which channel was used and whether the customer responded. This helps separate a lead-quality concern from a delayed or incomplete follow-up process.
Compare like with like
Where enough records exist, review results by lead type, location and agreed qualification criteria. Avoid comparing unlike campaigns or drawing strong conclusions from a very small number of leads.
Use the findings carefully
Share useful patterns with the campaign team and agree whether the brief needs adjustment. A lead can create an opportunity to speak with a prospective customer; it cannot promise a sale, installation or revenue.
